SSG Game of the Week: Hillcrest scores huge upset over Lemont

The Hillcrest Hawks, a pre-season favorite to make a deep playoff run, improved those playoff prospects significantly with a 32-26 upset at Lemont in the South Suburban Gazette Game of the Week for Week 8.

Hillcrest Running back Mar'Keise Irving led the offensive attack with 302 yards and two touchdowns for Hillcrest's huge win the South Suburban Blue division against a very stout Lemont defense that allowed only 55 points in 7 games before Friday.

Lemont opened the scoring in the 1st Quarter when Anthony Sambucci took a Hillcrest punt 90 yards to the endzone and a Lemont 7-0 lead.

Mar'Keise Irving answered with an interception on defense to set up a 30 yard TD run to get Hillcrest on the board and cut the Lemont lead to 7-6. Irving continued to demonstrate his impressive well rounded skills with a 12 yard TD pass to Robert Myles to put Hillcrest in the lead at 12-7.

Both defenses lived up to the reputations and neither team scored again heading into the final quarter. Sambucci found the endzone again scoring on a 5 yard TD pass from Luke Bailey. The two point conversion was good and Lemont owned a 15-12 lead in the 4th Quarter.

Irving once again was the answer for Hillcrest, after getting tremendous blocking, ran 83 yards untouched to give the Hawks a 20-15 lead.

Lemont marched down the field and Bailey added a rushing touchdown diving in from a yard out. Another two point conversion put Lemont up 23-20.

Late game heroics on both sides made for a thrilling finish, starting with Hillcrest Jamon Williams 37 yard TD catch from Myles to put Hillcrest up 26-23.

Lemont answered again when they drove deep into Hillcrest territory and tied the game 26-26 with a 29 yard Field Goal from Mark Orszulak.

Hillcrest drove deep into Lemont territory and with just 24 seconds left, Myles scored a QB sneak from the 1 yard line and give Hillcrest the 32-26 victory.
