Sandburg scores upset to start High School Football Season

The 2019 Illinois High School Association football season kicked off Friday night with all our local schools in action. Carl Sandburg (1-0) perhaps made the biggest statement with a 10-7 upset of one of the Chicago Public League's best teams, Morgan Park.
Brother Rice won a battle of Top 10 powerhouses with a 26-20 over Hillcrest. Brother Rice was the 8A Runner-Up last season while Hillcrest was thought by many to be a state title contender this year.
Andrew High School started the 2019 campaign in fine fashion with a 39-3 win over Kewaskum High School in Wisconsin. Marist, an 8A semi-finalist a year ago, picked up where they left off last November with 42-0 win over Dunbar. Other area scores:
Providence over Willowbrook 14-7
Richards over Lincoln Way Central 14-7
Stagg over Little Village 35-16
